Blacksburg Area Attractions

 
  • The Huckleberry Trail (The Huckleberry Trail is an asphalt-paved bike/pedestrian path. The trail currently runs from the Blacksburg library to the New River Mall.)

  • Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech (Golf Course on the New River that the Virginia Tech Golf Team uses as their home course. )

  • Smithfield Plantation (Named after the wife of Colonel William Preston, this plantation is also the birthplace of two Virginia governors) 

  • Lyric Theatre (featuring film, live plays, dance, music and lectures) 

  • Cascade Falls  (This four mile round trip trail meanders along a shaded mountain creek to a 70 foot waterfall within the Jefferson National Forest.)

  • Mountain Lake Wilderness (This 11,113 acre wilderness is the largest in the Jefferson National Forest and it consists of a highland plateau which sits squarely on the eastern continental divide.)

  • Pandapas Pond (An eight acre man-made pond on the edge of the Eastern Continental Divide that offers excellent warm water fishing opportunities, as well as canoeing.)

Virginia Tech Attractions


  • Burruss Hall (Burruss Hall is the main administration building on campus. It contains a 3,003-seat auditorium, a venue where major events such as commencement, presidential speeches, concerts, and arts shows are held.  

  • Torgersen Hall (The building joins Newman Library via an enclosed bridge that spans Alumni Mall.)

  • War Memorial Chapel (The upper level contains Memorial Court with eight sculptured Indiana limestone pylons representing, from left to right: Brotherhood, Honor, Leadership, Sacrifice, Service, Loyalty, Duty, and Ut Prosim (the University motto: "That I May Serve"). The names of alumni who have died while in military service are carved on the pylons.)

  • April 16th Memorial / We Remember (In the hours following the April 16 tragedy, the student-driven volunteer organization Hokies United placed 32 Hokie Stones on the Drillfield. The semi-circle of stones became a place to gather, to mourn, and to reflect, and the poignant display inspired today’s memorial.)

  • Lane Stadium/Worsham Field (Billed as the toughest place in college football for opponents to play by Rivals.com, Lane Stadium seats 66,233.)
  • Cassell Coliseum  (The 229,297-square-foot facility houses a 10,052-seat basketball arena, locker rooms, two auxiliary gymnasiums, offices, and other athletic facilities.)
  • Hahn Hurst Basketball Practice Center (The Hahn Hurst Basketball Practice Center, just east of Cassell Coliseum, is a state-of-the-art practice facility for men and women’s basketball. It includes memorabilia areas, coaches’ and staff offices, two basketball courts, locker rooms, film classrooms, and other amenities that enhance the university’s basketball programs.)

  • Jamerson Athletic Center (The 39,617-square-foot Jamerson Athletic Center houses administrative offices and other facilities for the Athletics Department.)
  • Merryman Athletic Facility (The Merryman Athletic Facility includes a sports medicine and a a strength and conditioning complex, as well as other facilities for athletes. The Michael Vick Hallway, on the second floor includes a 130-seat auditorium and nine meeting rooms for use by the football team; the Hall of Legends; offices for Coach Frank Beamer and his top assistant; the video department; and the women's basketball offices. The Hall of Legends provides visitors with a display of Hokie football memorabilia.)

  • Duck Pond  (The Duck Pond is one of the most beloved places on campus. The grounds surrounding the pond have been used for a myriad of activities for the past 70 years. Academic activities, concerts, research projects, picnics, quiet reflection, creation of artwork, and community activities of all types occur here.)
  • Hahn Horticulture Garden (The Hahn Horticulture Garden is nearly six acres of teaching and display gardens located on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.)
